Notice from the Slovenian Embassy in Brussels regarding the December referendum

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SLOVAK EMBASSY IN BRUSSELS:

Dear,

On 4 November 2015, the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Decree on the call for a legislative referendum on the Act on Amendments and Supplements to the Marriage and Family Relations Act, which was published on the same day in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, no. 83/15. Monday, November 9, 2015, was set as the date of the referendum announcement, which is when the deadlines for the tasks necessary to carry out the referendum begin, and the general voting on the referendum will take place on Sunday, December 20, 2015.

The question in the referendum reads:

"Are you in favor of the Act on Amendments and Supplements to the Marriage and Family Relations Act (ZZZDR-D), adopted by the National Assembly at its meeting on March 3, 2015?".

The polling stations will be open on 20/12/2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time at the following offices:

Voters abroad

A. voters who will be temporarily abroad on the day of voting (residents) vote in two ways:

1. at the diplomatic mission or consulate of the Republic of Slovenia (hereinafter: DKP);

2. by mail from abroad

For both forms of voting, voters who will be temporarily abroad on the day of voting must notify the State Election Commission, hereafter DVK, of their intention. You can send the notification on the form: "Voting by mail from abroad (homestays) - Obr.02", which is published on the DVK website.

The voter can send the notification in three ways:

  • by e-mail (scanned for signature) to the e-mail address gp.dvk@dvk-rs.si or
  • by fax to the number: 00386 143 31 269 or
  • by post to the address: National Electoral Commission, Slovenska cesta 54, SI-1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia;

The State Election Commission must receive the voter's notification no later than midnight on December 4, 2015.

The deadline for submitting the notification is exclusive and the deadline for arrival applies. DVK will not take into account a notification received late.

All voters who would like to vote by mail should send the notification to DVK as soon as possible so that you will receive the voting materials on time.

B. Voters who you do not have a permanent residence in the Republic of Slovenia (expatriates) can vote:

1. at a diplomatic mission or consulate (DKP), if a polling station is established at DKP and you are registered in the voter's register

2. by mail from abroad

If you want to vote by mail as a voter who does not have a permanent residence in the Republic of Slovenia (hereinafter: expatriate), you must inform the DVK of your intention.

The notification can be sent on the form "Voting by mail from abroad (expatriates) - Obr.01", which is published on the website of the national election commission.

All voters who would like to vote by mail should send the notification to DVK as soon as possible, so that they will receive the election materials on time.

3. At a special polling station at the headquarters of the district electoral commission (administrative unit) - "OMNIA"

An emigrant who will be in the Republic of Slovenia on voting day, i.e. 20 December 2015, can decide to vote at a special polling station at the seat of the district electoral commission (administrative unit), the "OMNIA" polling station.

If you (an expatriate) want to vote at this polling station, you must notify the district election commission or DVK. You send the notice on the form: "Voting outside the district of permanent residence (emigrants) - Obr.03" in the same way as specified in point B/2.

The State Electoral Commission must receive the voter's notification no later than midnight on 16 December 2015. The deadline for submitting the notification is exclusive and the deadline for arrival applies. DVK will not take into account a notification received late.
