At International Holocaust Remembrance Day and 80th anniversary of the end of World War II We at the Slovenian Society in Luxembourg also want to honor the memory of all victims of war. That is why we are organizing the screening of an unforgettable documentary film that reveals one of the darkest themes of our history. »Caught in the Spring – Slovenian Children of Lebensborn" is a film by Maja Weiss and Nataša Konc Lorenzutti, which presents the stories of Slovenian children, victims of the Nazi Lebensborn program, whose stories resonate even louder today due to the wars currently raging in Ukraine and Gaza.

About the movie:
In 1942, around thirty Slovenian children were abducted as part of the Nazi Lebensborn program, which aimed to spread the “Aryan race.” Most of these children were adopted by German families loyal to the Nazi regime, and their fates were often permanently marked.
The documentary follows four of these children – now adults – as they share their stories of pain, courage and search for identity. Their testimonies are an invaluable reminder of the horrors of the past that still resonate today in a world where similar atrocities, as demonstrated by the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, are still happening.
Why should you see this movie?
- Shocking stories: The stunningly honest stories of four Slovenian victims whose fates were marked by the horrors of the Nazi regime.
- Round table: After the film, there will be a discussion with director Maja Weiss, screenwriter Nataša Konc Lorenzutti, and Mr. Franc Zagožno, one of the victims of the Lebensborn program.
- A deeply emotional film: Critics describe it as the most powerful documentary on this topic – a film that will not leave you indifferent and will remain in your memory for a long time.
Warning:
The film is not only educational, reminding us of the atrocities of the past, but also encourages us as humanity to strive to prevent them from happening again. The story of these children is a story of human dignity, survival and hope. See how strong the human will can be.
Critics' opinions:
- “The best film about the Lebensborn children I have ever seen. It moved me deeply.” – Dr. Georg Lilienthal, historian.
- “The film warns us of the dangers brought by war, and the invaluable importance of humanity and reconciliation.” – Dr. Tone Kregar, director of the Museum of Recent History in Celje.
