The Slovenian Embassy in Brussels announced that the Brussels landmark Manneken Pis will be dressed in Slovenian national costume for the third time. National Day, June 25th, you will be able to see it in such a costume during 11. and 15. hour.
Manneken Pis will be dressed in the Gorenjska national costume in honor of the 25th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Slovenia, which is taking place in the 25th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Slovenia and Belgium.
At 11 a.m., the Slovenian Ambassador to Brussels, Matjaž Šinkovec, will greet the gathering, followed by a promotion of Slovenian wine, beer and cuisine. The statue is located on the corner of Rue de L'Etuve and Rue du Chene, near the main square of Brussels, Grand Place.
This will be the third time that Manneken Pis has been dressed in Slovenian costume. The first time was on April 30, 2004, the day before Slovenia joined the EU, and the second time was on June 25, 2012, when we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Slovenia's independence.
Manneken Pis (the peeing boy), created by Jerome Duqesnoy the Elder, is one of the main attractions of Brussels, visited by thousands of tourists every year. The statue, which is 60 cm tall, is regularly dressed in specially prepared clothes. Between 1918 and 1940, the statue had about 30 clothes, today it has 800.
