On Wednesday, 19 March 2025, we successfully opened the joint painting exhibition of two Slovenian artists, Mirjam Oremuž, Moje rože in valovi, and Jane Zagoričnik Žičkar, Zrenja, at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. We were delighted with the large turnout and the opening greetings from the artists and the Slovenian judges of the General Court of the European Union, Dr. Maja Brkan and Dr. Damjan Kukovec, as well as the participation of the Head of the Slovenian Translation Department of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Silva Horvat Nynabb. We tasted potica baked by a 91-year-old grandfather, peaches and Teran, chatted to pleasant music and viewed the masterpieces of both artists.
Mirjam impressed us with her modernist paintings of flowers, which she creates with her own motifs following the example of the mother of American modernism, Georgia O'Keeffe. She also loves sea motifs, which she finds on the island of Krk when she walks by the sea, picks lemons and admires flowers and nature. When looking at her paintings, we feel as if we are in nature or on the coast, the paintings calm us and bring something positive to every space.
Jana explained that her paintings are experiments through which she explores her artistic language. When the paint, the brush and the idea of the artist on the canvas are captured, the experiment succeeds and calls for more. She also creates at home, in a house surrounded by a carefully arranged environment reminiscent of Japanese gardens. She has a vivid imagination, which is reflected in a very diverse set of paintings, there is something for every taste.
